“Definitely trust yourself. Work hard. Be honest with yourself. And life can be joyful. It is joyful. Just give it your all and it’s all going to work out.” – Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes, an IMTA alum from both NY93 and NY95, currently graces the April cover of Glamour Magazine’s 70th anniversary issue. The celebratory edition includes a candid and in-depth interview with Holmes by Glamour senior contributing editor Sheila Weller in which she opens up about her work, her married life, being a mother, and dealing with the constant tabloid gossip.
Holmes has been receiving kudos for her work in the past year that included playing a free-spirited thief in the feature comedy Mad Money, making her critically acclaimed Broadway debut in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, and astonishing TV audiences with her singing and dancing in a dazzling Chicago-style musical number on ABC’s “Eli Stone.” “I want to do it all,” Holmes says in her Glamour interview. “Bad girl, good girl, complicated girl. Aren’t we all complicated? And I like all different genres: comedies, dramas, action, musicals.”
Holmes is currently filming The Extra Man with Kevin Kline. “It’s a very New York story,” she explains. “Kevin Kline plays a man who takes socialites to parties. I play a character named Mary who works at an environmental magazine and is trying to change the world one day at a time.” Holmes also stars in the current Miu Miu spring/summer campaign, with the fashion house stating that she “portrays a luminous icon radiating a sense of mystery and theatricality.”
About her life and work, Holmes says, “I feel really, really lucky. And you know what? I feel the best response [to tabloid stories] is just going about my life: enjoying life, making movies, being a good mom and a good wife, and focusing on that. Because if you’re doing well, what can they say?”
