IMTA Press Release
September 13, 2007

“Letting go of your past is hard...especially when it's dating your Mom.” – Mr. Woodcock tagline

If you haven’t heard much about IMTA alum Seann William Scott for a while, that’s about to change because…well, he’s been just a little busy. With the comedy Mr. Woodcock in theatres this week, the list of features in which Scott stars that have completed filming and are awaiting release is now a mere six, while the list of his projects (as star and/or producer) that have been announced and are in various stages of development is currently at seven, according to Hollywood.com.

In Mr. Woodcock, the first of several upcoming feature releases, Scott stars alongside Billy Bob Thorton and Susan Sarandon as a young man who is taken aback by his mother's plans to marry to his old high school gym teacher, a man who made high school hell for generations of students. As a successful self-help author, Scott finds himself unable to follow his own advice to let go of the past.

The Comedy/Musical/Sci-Fi/Thriller Southland Tales is also finally scheduled for release this fall. Set in Los Angeles in the year 2008 during a three day heat wave just before a huge 4th of July celebration, an action star stricken with amnesia meets up with an adult film star developing her own reality TV project and a Hermosa Beach police officer who holds the key to a vast conspiracy. Scott stars alongside Sarah Michelle Geller, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Mandy Moore.

Next is Quebec, with Scott opposite veteran character actor John C. Reilly. As two assistant managers of a large grocery-store chain who learn that a long-awaited promotion is soon to be announced, the competition between the pair drives their families and co-workers to the edge of sanity. Scott also stars with Gretchen Mol in Trainwreck: My Life as an Idiot. In the film—which sports the intriguing tagline “He may be a total disaster... but at least he's entertaining”—he plays a recovering alcoholic who is trying to overcome his learning disabilities. And another feature awaiting release is Gary the Tennis Coach in which Scott plays an over-zealous high school janitor who takes on the task of coaching a group of lovable misfits to the Nebraska state tennis championship, overcoming their motley backgrounds in the process.

Scheduled for release in 2008 is Big Brothers in which thirty-something perpetual frat boys Scott and co-star Paul Rudd must enroll in a Big Brother program as part of their court-mandated community service. Following Big Brothers is Space Chimps, an animated adventure comedy in which two chimps travel to the end of the galaxy. Scott has been tapped to voice a character with other comedic actors Jeff Daniels, Cheryl Hines, Stanley Tucci, Patrick Wrburton and Kristen Chenowith.

Of the announced projects for Scott, a 1995 alum of IMTA Los Angeles, one is to star in a remake of the 1963 musical Bye, Bye Birdie, which will have SNL writer-comedienne Tina Fey as part of the writing team. Other projects include starring in and producing (through his production company Identity Films) The Book of Leo, Coxblocker, Nerd Camp and The Optimist.
