IMTA ALUM JILL WAGNER ENTERS “STARGATE: ATLANTIS”

“The Mercury Girl” lands recurring role on Sci-Fi hit
IMTA Press Release October 25, 2007

“Travelers” episode airs Friday, Oct. 26th, 10 p.m. Eastern/Pacific on the Sci-Fi channel.
"I meet people in this industry everyday that help me and that I learn from." – Jill Wagner

So, you’ve slain vampires, “punk’d” some of the biggest names in Hollywood, been photographed for Stuff and FHM magazines, ranked #90 on the Maxim Hot 100 Women of 2004 list, and been responsible for a surge in sales for a major automaker. Where to now? If you’re IMTA alum Jill Wagner, you go to another galaxy to become the leader of a race that lives their entire lives aboard space ships. Sounds like a piece of cake.

Wagner guest-stars on Sci-Fi’s “Stargate: Atlantis” as Larrin, the leader of a technologically advanced race—Travelers—that travel from planet to planet in an armada of ships. When Larrin and her people capture the leader of the Atlantis expedition (series regular Joe Flanigan), they hope to convince him to use his ability to use Ancient technology for their own ends.

Wagner’s role on the show will be a recurring one. "Jill is great as Larrin,” said Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi. “Her group will put in at least one re-appearance in the back of Season Four." Various “Stargate” blogs indicate that the Travelers will most likely be around for a while. They are “kind of roguish and untrustworthy in some ways, but also potential allies in another way. [They are] just generally the type of characters that I like—not black or white, but kind of gray,” added Mallozzi.

Following her stint as a co-conspirator on fellow IMTA alum Ashton Kutcher’s MTV series “Punk’d,” the LA01 Female Model of the Year began to clinch roles on TV in series such as “Monk” and “Dr. Vegas,” and in the independent films Junebug and Shifted, among others. Her profile (and popularity) rose significantly with her casting as the spokesmodel on a continuing series of Lincoln-Mercury commercials, sparked by chatter on numerous automotive and “starlet watch” blogs about the hot new “Mercury Girl.” Wagner’s star continued to rise with her casting as Krista Starr in “Blade:The Series.” Even though the series was not renewed, she received excellent reviews, opening the door for her casting in the “Stargate: Atlantis” role.

Wagner recently completed filming the horror film Splinter with co-stars Shea Wigham (Lords of Dogtown, First Snow) and Paulo Costanzo (Michael Tribbiani on the TV series “Joey”). The three play a young couple and an escaped convict who must find a way to work together to survive when they are trapped in an isolated gas station by a veracious Splinter parasite that transforms its still living victims into deadly hosts. Splinter is scheduled for release in 2008.
